Weekly report 44 (Jiangsu Special)
- Suzhou: The orange line 3 is under test runs, most probably opening in December. Test runs are conducted in three phases: phase I lasting from 16th Aug to 15th Sept, phase II from 16th Sept to 16th Oct, and phase III from 17th Oct to the day before official opening, during which operation under different timetables is being simulated. This is also the first line to connect two suburban railway stations, Suzhou New District to Suzhou Industrial Park.
- Xuzhou: Line 1 has already been under test runs since June and has a due date in September. This line joins the Xuzhou Railway Station in the city centre with Xuzhou East Station, meant for high speed railway.
- Wuxi: June is the month of great significance to this city, with the finish of line 3 concurring with the test runs of line 1 south extension. The government guaranteed the opening before October, so that the pressure on line 3 may be drawn away.
The new route map indicates three new stations to be opened.
- Changzhou: Not surprisingly, line 1 in Changzhou is currently under test runs, too. This new line links Changzhou Station with the North Station, coincidentally also designed for high speed rail. The announcements call for September, so Changzhou has to fight with Xuzhou over the title of the 34th Chinese city to own a subway system.
That's all for this week and the first special issue ever to be published! Who do you think stand a greater chance to be the leader? Can you predict their openings in a sequence? Let me know your thoughts by sharing them in the comment below!
